Urinary Frequency After TURP

by Declan
(Ireland)

I had TURP surgery a week ago. I had an enlarged prostate causing serious urinary frequency.

After my surgery, my urine frequency is even worse. My Consultant is rather dismissive of my concerns, telling me that frequency is a normal side effect that will settle in two to eight weeks.

I’m very anxious and just looking for reassurance that what I am going through is fairly normal and usually settles down in time.

Ron here...

Urinary frequency after TURP is a common occurrence. Yes in many cases it will settle down, but in others it may not. That is why some men have serious long-term side effects.

Your doctor should not be so submissive of your concerns given that it can be a long term problem that in some men manifests as urinary incontinence one of the other side effects of TURP.

The reason that these TURP and other prostate surgeries' side effects happen is that infection gets into the prostate via:

1. Pre-surgical existing infections as part of the BPH problem

2. Prostate invasive testing before the surgery during diagnosis
- biopsies
- cystoscopy
- uroflowmetry

The risk of infection is great with all these and can help spread existing infections inside the prostate.

3. The TURP procedure itself is very invasive and can aggravate or add more infection.

4. Indwelling catheters before and after TURP can add or cause infection.

Now sometimes if infection is avoided in the prostate, it can be a bladder problem.

The longer you had a catheter in place, the weaker your bladder muscle and bladder sphincter becomes.
Plus if the TURP went into the bladder neck area it could easily add to bladder weakness.

If no infection is in the bladder, then with time your doc is right that it will get better as the bladder muscle improves.

You can help this along by doing prostate exercises like kegel squeezes.

IT IS CRUCIAL YOU START VERY SLOW AND GENTLE MAYBE JUST 10 AT A TIME FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN SLOWLY INCREASING THE AMOUNT BY DOING MORE SETS DURING THE DAY. IF MILD BLOOD COLOR OCCURS IN URINE, THEN YOUR BLADDER HAS BEEN STRESSED AND STOP AND WAIT UNTIL THE URINE CLEARS UP, AND START EVEN SLOWER AGAIN.

Prostate exercise will in time allow more bladder control, less urgency and frequency. You can increase the number and duration of sets during the day when all is well.

If your urine tests for infection then oral antibiotics will work. That could be part of why you have urinary frequency after TURP.

If after weeks of no improvement, then insist your urologist take a prostate fluid sample for testing for pathogens: infections, viruses, and fungi.

If these show up then western medicine will be able to do little to fix them.

Antibiotics cannot penetrate into the prostate capsule no matter for how long or type they try.

Please read up on this at the 3D Prostate Clinic

3D Prostate Clinic

They fix these infections all the time.
It's the best prostate clinic in the world in this writer's opinion.

Lastly it is very important that you use positive self talk, imaging a healthy prostate and great urinary function. Our minds are very powerful and sometimes that is all your body needs to turn the tide in your favor.

Of course eat the very best organic diet you can and make all the lifestyle changes I talk about on this site and in my books.

Best of luck in your healing journey.
