What prostate cancer warning signs should men know about?
You may or may not have any prostate cancer warning signs because prostate cancer, unlike an enlarged prostate, can happen without any symptoms. It is one of the reasons doctors suggest having a DRE - a digital rectal exam. Cancerous tissue feels different to the expert touch and can be detected this way without any harm being done.
The other way urologists suspect warning signs of prostate cancer is by the controversial PSA test. Please go to that section on the site to read more about why this can be a misleading test that often results in unnecessary surgeries.
In most cases of prostate cancer, some warning signs of prostate cancer will become obvious.
The problem with the symptoms is that they are very similar to what you would find in BPH symptoms or prostatitis symptoms. The symptoms can occur with prostate cancer, but more often are symptoms related to the other non-cancerous prostate problems.
These include:
Many of these are also seen in cases of prostate enlargement, in which there is no cancer. Some symptoms may also be caused by infections or prostatitis. It is not easy to diagnose prostate cancer from symptoms alone. In some prostate cancer cases, few if any symptoms are present.
All of these warning signs of prostate cancer may be other prostate diseases so the only way to know for sure is by having a prostate biopsy.
And that opens up a can or worms!
Why?
Because the test can be harmful in itself and even if it shows cancerous cells, the recommendation from your doctor will most likely be surgery to protect himself from lawsuits.
Most cases of prostate cancer are so slow growing that the best course of action is called "watchful waiting" by the doctors. Most men will die of something else than prostate cancer, especially if you undertake natural prostate cancer treatments to reduce your symptoms.
