Fluid Biopsy Use

NCI article (2012)

(quote) Fluid biopsy, a method developed by researchers at The Scripps Research Institute Physical Sciences-Oncology Center (Scripps PS-OC) based on technology that captures from a patient’s blood the few circulating tumor cells (CTCs) that have broken away from even small tumors."

Has this testing procedure become accepted to, in some cases at least, replace intrusive prostate biopsies? Is it in clinical use, to your knowledge?

If so, the opportunity many need to avoid the serious negatives of the instrusive, potentially dangerous prostate biopsy.

Thanks.

Fluid Biopsy Use
by: Bob

I've contacted Scripps to see if fluid biopsy is in use.
I'd guess that if the blood test was launched SIX years ago( to plenty of hoopla) if it hasn't caught on by now, there must be a reason:

* Cheap blood test reduces the provider's cash flow from that of
expensive prostate biopsies.

* Resistance from uro practices, manufacturers of devices, etc.

* Maybe, a last thought, inaccuracy compared to tissue biopsy?
